The loss of liquid via the hydathodes is called ____.
- A
Ascent of sap
- B
Plasmolysis
- C
Imbibition
- D
Guttation
A hydathode is a type of pore, commonly found in angiosperms, that secretes water through pores in the epidermis of leaf margin through which liquid, such as excess xylem sap is lost.
The movement of water and minerals from roots to all the other parts of the plant is referred to as the ‘ascent of sap.’ It includes TACT Theory.
‘Plasmolysis’ is defined as the process of contraction or shrinkage of the protoplasm of a plant cell and is caused due to the loss of water in the cell.
'Imbibition’ is defined as the absorption of one substance by another, in particular the uptake of water by a plant or seed or wood bark.
‘Guttation’ is the loss of water in the form of liquid through hydathodes or water stomata. It occurs due to positive root pressure and serves to remove excess water from the plant. It is also called exudation.
